Shoyeido Incense

April 20, 2016 Incense, Personal

After many months of neglect, I have resumed the journey of understanding incense. I got into the premium pack from Shoyeido and took some notes about them. I included the incense I felt I was the most familiar with (Fu-In Kyara) and a wildcard I received from my father in law (Shibayama something)

With the help of my wife, I went through them all one by one, blindfolded (my eyes were closed~) I ended up getting a score of 5/8. The one I thought I knew the best I got wrong, my nose is trash. While I go smell these sticks for another 20 minutes, here were my notes as I went. I will put burn/smoke notes as they come (since my internet is back, not often! ha ha) Stuff that is bolded is very distinct, can’t be misinterpreted, kind of thing (to me)

Dry Stick Name[Composition]:Aromas

  1. Shibayama something: Cola gummies, luggage, sweet-perfumey (vanilla?)
  2. Fu-In Kyara: RubA535, Cinnamon, Insect Repellent/Sun Screen, Medicinal, Army Surplus Stores (dusty), Antiques, Intense and complex
  3. ShoPA Kings Aroma [Sandalwood, Clove, Patchouli]: Curry (sweet), Green Ceder’s Lebanese Market, curry caramel
  4. ShoPA Gentle Smile [Agarwood (Aloeswood), Cinnamon, Clove, Benzoin, Camphor]: Curry, (green herbal + soap) if I compared to Kings Aroma, doesn’t smell as sweet
  5. ShoPA Southern Wind [Agarwood (Aloeswood), Clove, Camphor]: (Sweet soap, cinnamon, herbs), minor curry
  6. ShoPA Five Clouds [Kyara, Agarwood (Aloeswood), Sandalwood]: Subtle, Rubber Playground bits, beeswax, cloves
  7. ShoPA Infinity [Kyara, Agarwood (Aloeswood), Camphor]: Honey, Saffron
  8. ShoPA Translucent Path [Kyara (Aloeswood), spices]: Honey, newly painted house

Interesting to note that 35 sticks of Translucent Path costs $750 USD, ayyyyyyyyyyy

Burn Aromas:

Infinity: Burned Marshmallow, Burning Paper, Perfume-y green herbs (aloe plant), Espadin Mezcal, Donair sauce+vegetables.
